===> DNS project <===

Abstract

As more mobile devices and applications allow users to be mobile, mechanisms to maintain communication are needed when there is a change in location over the course of a communication session. Mobile IP is the current solution to internet mobility but appears to have some problems. Thus, a new approach to handling mobility called “Identity/Locator Split” concept has been proposed to solve some problems in Mobile IP.

The aims of this project are to design and implement a mechanism that maps Mobile Nodes to their Correspondent Nodes. In this project, we designed the system which mapped the Mobile Node addresses and the Correspondent Node addresses in the DNS and was also responsible for updating Correspondent Nodes with new Mobile Node’s address whenever the Mobile Node moves. Based on experiments carried out on the design, it was observed that the time it takes to send an update from the Mobile Node to the Correspondent Node via the DNS increased by 69.5% when there was traffic in the network. Overall, the design worked very well satisfying the basic requirement of mapping Mobile Node and Correspondent Node addresses.
